Players often compare rough and smooth padel racket surfaces when looking for more spin. Surface texture can influence the interaction between ball and racket, but it is only one part of the equation.
Technique remains the main factor
Racket path, contact point, acceleration and face angle determine how much spin you create. A textured surface cannot compensate for poor contact.
What does a rough surface change?
Additional texture can increase friction at impact and make it easier to reproduce a strong brushing contact. This may be particularly noticeable on slices, kick smashes, bandejas and viboras.
What about smooth rackets?
A smooth racket can still generate substantial spin with good technique. Players who like their racket but want more surface texture may prefer an accessory rather than replacing the entire racket.
