How to Wrap a Padel Overgrip Properly

Wrapping an overgrip looks simple, but small mistakes can change how the racket feels in your hand. The aim is an even layer with consistent overlap and no loose sections.

1. Remove the old overgrip

Take off the worn layer and remove any loose tape. Make sure the underlying grip is dry and secure.

2. Start at the butt cap

Begin at the bottom of the handle and anchor the tapered end firmly. Hold the racket so you can rotate the handle while maintaining steady tension.

3. Keep the overlap consistent

Each turn should overlap the previous layer by roughly the same amount. Too little overlap creates gaps; too much creates unnecessary thickness and ridges.

4. Use steady tension

Stretch the overgrip enough to keep it smooth, but do not pull so aggressively that the material becomes overly thin or distorted.

5. Finish neatly

Continue to the top of the handle, trim any excess if necessary and secure the end with finishing tape.

6. Check the feel before playing

Hold the racket in your normal ready position. If you can feel a large ridge or loose area, rewrap it now rather than adapting your grip around the problem.
