How to Prepare Sweaty Hands Before a Padel Match

If you know your hands sweat heavily during padel, waiting until the racket starts slipping is too late. A short pre-match routine can make the grip feel more consistent from the first game.

Step 1: Start with clean, dry hands

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before play. Oils, moisturiser and residue can reduce friction even before perspiration begins.

Step 2: Inspect your overgrip

If it already feels smooth, damp or compressed, replace it before the match. Starting with a worn overgrip makes moisture management much harder.

Step 3: Use a hand-drying product if needed

Players with heavy perspiration can apply a dedicated hand-drying or antiperspirant product before warm-up, allowing enough time for it to absorb.

Step 4: Add grip enhancement conservatively

If extra traction is required, apply a small amount of grip spray or paste. More is not always better; build the level gradually.

Step 5: Carry a towel and spare overgrips

Dry your hands during breaks and keep spare overgrips in the bag. If the grip becomes saturated, replacing it is often quicker and more effective than trying to rescue it.
